5 Fun Steps to Creating the Perfect Patio

Your patio should be a peaceful place where you can relax and enjoy everything that life here at Bowman Pointe has to offer. To do it right, it’s crucial that the space stays clean, feels comfortable, reflects your style, and celebrates your everyday life.
At this moment, you might be shopping and preparing to move in, thinking about redecorating, or envisioning a totally new holiday décor plan. Whatever the reason behind you being here and reading this blog, we have five simple and fun steps to suggest that will take your patio from plain to perfect!
Step #1: Clear the Clutter
The first step to creating the perfect patio is making sure the area is clean. Sweep the floor, discard any trash, and store away your excess stuff.
Dirt, boxes, and junk aren’t only annoying eyesores for you, but easy offenses that could get you in trouble.
Remember, our Resident Handbook specifies that you keep your patio clean, neat, and orderly. There is nothing peaceful about dirty laundry hanging from your railing or unsightly storage containers taking up your space!
Step #2: Find Your Furniture
Now it’s time to ask yourself, “How do I want my patio to make me feel?”
Do you want to feel transported to a tropical beach resort, luxe urban rooftop, or posh French bistro? Choosing the right furniture is crucial to giving your patio the right vibe for your desired aesthetic!
Whether you go for a cozy loveseat, lounge chairs, or coffee table, make sure the patio furniture you purchase is high quality and designed specifically for outdoor use. For example, we don’t permit folding chairs or indoor sofas to be placed outside on your patio!
Instead, look for furniture constructed primarily from metal, glass, rattan, or wood. If you go for a hammock, make sure it attaches to its own freestanding support structure and not the patio railing.
Step #3: Design Your Décor
Once your patio is clean and you’ve laid the foundation with some great furniture, it’s time to start decorating!
The perfect colors, patterns, and textures for you and your space can all be created by selecting the right décor. Get some soft pillows, small rugs, decorative vases…anything that accentuates the aesthetic you wish to achieve.
Just don’t forget to revisit your Resident Handbook before adding anything to your shopping cart. All the following items are no-no’s when it comes to decorating your patio:
- Barbecues or fuel-burning cooking devices (We have grilling stations you can use!)
- Antennae, radio poles, and similar devices or equipment
- Full patio carpets, coverings, AstroTurf, or similar materials
- Excessive or flashing lights and decorations
- Flags and banners
- Umbrellas and awnings
- Hot tubs and spas
- Bicycles, skateboards, and skates
- Sheds, playhouses, and similar structures
This list includes any pictures, signs, or lights that must be hung from or nailed to something. We don’t want that beautiful patio to become damaged!
Step #4: Give It Some Greenery
The décor is in, so now it’s time to really bring your patio to life. Whether real or faux, give it some greenery!
Flowers, plants, herbs, and cacti would all make beautiful accompaniments to your outdoor oasis. Small succulents can be placed on a table, while large potted plants can be set down on the patio itself.
Just remember: Plants are living organisms that need water and light. If you work long hours or spend most of your time at school, get something green that requires less attention.
Step #5: Ham It Up for the Holidays
The holidays are coming up, which means you have a whole new opportunity to celebrate by adding seasonal decorations to your patio. It’s the only time of year we get a little lax about the rules and let you show off your holiday spirit!
Tasteful scarecrows, Jack-O-Lanterns, string lights, stars, bows, and garlands are all good ideas as long as they don’t detract from the peace and beauty of our luxury apartment community.
