How to Keep Your Apartment Warm During the Winter Months

|

The leaves have fallen, and the warm days of autumn are turning chilly. This is the time to think about ways to keep your apartment as warm as possible during the winter. Here are a few tips to keep your apartment warm this winter season.

  • Using Windows to Your Advantage.

Keep your curtains open during the daytime to let the sun warm your apartment, and consider hanging thermal curtains. These heavy curtains are widely available. An added benefit of thermal curtains is that they're also great at blocking out light while they act as thermal barriers to windows, helping keep warm air from escaping.

  • Try Reversing Your Ceiling Fans

Warm air tends to gather near the ceiling, while cold air gathers near the floor. When it's reversed, it pulls the cold air upwards while moving the warm air toward the floor. Changing this one thing will help improve the efficiency of your heat flow.

  • Keeping the Bathroom Door Open When You Shower

Suppose you are lucky enough to live alone or have roommates who don't mind you showering with the door open. This trick is a great way to warm up a small space quickly. The damp, warm air will keep your apartment warm and less dry during winter. We suggest doing this trick at most once- a week to prevent too much moisture.

  • Using a Portable Space Heater

Sometimes you don't want to heat your entire apartment, especially if you have a larger floorplan. Adding a space heater to any room can make a massive temperature difference. But remember to turn it off before you sleep or leave your residence. We recommend unplugging it when not in use to help with energy costs.

  • Keep Cozy

At the end of the day, it all boils down to the atmosphere. To stay warm at all times, try loading up your couch with warm cozy blankets and throw pillows. Cover your floors with thick area rugs, and try changing out your usual sheets for flannel sheets. All these ideas will help keep your atmosphere cozy and warm.

We hope these tips will help keep both you and your apartment warm this winter. If you have any questions or concerns about warmth in your apartment, please make a maintenance request or let the front office know. We want to make sure you are staying warm this season.
