Don't Let Dirt Scare You this Halloween!

Tips on Keeping a Clean Apartment

Keeping a clean apartment doesn't have to be scary, and just because you don't "own" your place doesn't mean you shouldn't have a regular cleaning routine to keep your environment fresh and in good condition. Cleaning regularly makes the job easier when you tackle these tasks – and what's more, keeping your rental in good shape helps ensure you'll get your deposit back when your lease is up!

Below are a few household tips to keep in mind when cleaning, but please read the instruction on the back of your cleaning supplies for the most up-to-date directions.

In Living Areas

If you have carpet throughout your rental, try vacuuming regularly to remove dirt and allergens, and treat spills immediately with a carpet-cleaning product. Attacking stains as soon as they happen will help keep the color of your carpet longer.

If you have hard flooring, try mixing a nonabrasive, all-purpose cleaner with warm water; use a mop, sponge or cloth dipped in the solution and wring out. A floor cleaner with polish can help fill in scratches and add shine.

In Bathroom and Kitchen Areas

When trying to prevent mold or mildew in your apartment, we suggest turning on your fan or opening a window when you shower. And while you're taking your shower, try the TikTok hack of adding a sponge or scrubber to your shower. Then you can wipe down the walls and tub while you scrub yourself! To help with buildup, clean those areas regularly with a nonabrasive, all-purpose cleaner, tub/tile/sink cleaner, or liquid cleanser and rinse with clean water. Avoid using powdered abrasive cleansers that could scratch surfaces. Dry and buff tile, faucets, and handles to prevent water spots. Try a daily shower cleaner to keep shower and tub surfaces free of buildup: spritz it on and go – no scrubbing or rinsing required! Now off to the kitchen! Just doing the dishes is just cleaning the surface of your kitchen. Try a nonabrasive all-purpose cleaner when you need to do those deep cleans. Make sure you wipe up spills immediately with a dry cloth to prevent discoloration. Always allow the cooking surface to cool before cleaning. Try using a solution of baking soda and water to clean inside your fridge. This will also help with any smells that might be coming from your fridge.
